The Shropshire Wildlife Trust began a five-year programme of badger vaccination on one of its nature reserves in the north of the county last autumn. Gloucestershire and Somerset Wildlife Trusts will also vaccinate badgers on their nature reserves within the pilot cull areas of West Gloucestershire and West Somerset.

SWT is also urging Defra to continue development of an oral badger vaccine, and campaigners seek to change EU regulation so that a cattle vaccine - obviously much easier to administer than a badger vaccine - could be used commercially, which is currently not possible under EU legislation.
